Jack decided that we should take Blake, our 15-month old grandson, to the state fair this year and we invited his parents to join us. We started out early in the day because that’s the best time to go to the animal barns. Blake liked the animals well enough but what he really liked was sitting on the tractors, motorcycles, and four-wheelers—just like his grandpa.
As I began to think about where we would have lunch, Jason said to me, “Mom you don’t stop for lunch; you eat all day long”. With that decided, we worked our way through the foot-long pronto pups and fried cheese curds to Buffalo shrimp on a skewer and deep-fried turkey wings (called Flappers). Katie had her mind set on having a funnel cake and warm chocolate chip cookies.
The two best things I tasted were the roasted corn-on-the-cob and the Walleye cakes. Here is Blake taking bite of corn from the cob.

Now I’m wondering if the Walleye and corn are unique to the Minnesota State Fair? What do you look forward to eating at the fair in your state?
The weirdest thing I tasted? Chocolate covered bacon.
